Viewing Path and Work Location Information

As you construct the paths of the design, path information is displayed in the Design Workspace. Switching Views in the Design Workspace ). Each path is numbered and displayed in sequence, along with the number of points and spans in the path and the path type. The path information also includes the total cost of implementing the path's specifications if you have assigned units to the path's work locations or to assigned features.

By expanding the folder for a path, you can see the path's work locations. Work points are numbered in sequence (P1, P2, P3, etc.), as are work spans (S1, S2, S3). Each work location number within the design is unique and corresponds to work locations represented on the GIS map (if the design is a GIS design). A work location that is used in more than one path is designated with same number.

A folder icon next to a point or span indicates that the work location has facility data associated with it-either existing, in-service facilities or facilities that you have assigned. Expanding the folder of a work location displays its associated features. Expanding the folder of a feature displays its associated compatible unit.

Viewing Paths in the GIS Window

With the Go To command you can view specific paths of GIS designs. When you select a path in the Design Workspace and then invoke the Go To command, the selected path is centered in the GIS window and highlighted. The Highlight command can also be used to visually isolate the path from other parts of the design without changing the current boundaries of the window.

If you are viewing a GIS design in read-only mode, these commands will be available if you are connected to the GIS and if your version of the GIS database contains the design.

The Go To and Highlight commands are accessed from the Actions menu of the Design Assistant and from the shortcut menu.

To View a Path in the GIS Window

  1. From the list of paths in the Design Workspace, select the path that you want to view in the GIS window.
  2. To center the GIS window around the path and highlight it, choose Go To from the Actions menu. To highlight it without changing the window boundaries, choose Highlight.
  3. Or right-click the path and choose Go To or Highlight from the shortcut menu.
